Photos: South African actor dies after being shot during carjacking, two months after his wedding

Dumi Masilela, a South African singer, actor best known as Sifiso Ngema in etv's Rhythm City has died after he was shot in Tembisa last night in what is believed to have been a Carjacking.

He passed away this morning after fighting for his life in hospital.

Dumi and a friend were chatting on the side of the road where they parked when thugs in a black Jeep approached them.

They fled but a vehicle chase ensued during which Dumi was shot in the torso by the assailants before they drove away in his car.

His friend rushed him to hospital where emergency staff worked trying to save his life.

Dumi leaves behind his newlywed wife Simphiwe 'Sim' Ngema, a popular Muvhango actress.

A car accident sidelined Masilela's professional soccer career several years ago. After more than 3 years of rehabilitation, he carved out a career in TV.
